Sorrow in itself grieves the heart and how do we overcome grief in victory? There must be a way if Christ is living and active. When we are being terribly sinned against by a spouse or an unsaved loved one it can be difficult to go on. Our only hope is Christ to help us bear. There have been moments in my own journey where I wanted to throw in the towel and give up because the pain seemed unbearable. My only solution apart from sin is to lean into Christ, to weep at His feet at times or bask in His Word. Other times I have needed to confess the bitterness that has come up in my heart, the lack of trust or the fear...the sin that is first and foremost against my Creator.

Jesus and His disciples were no stangers of sorrow. Even His disciples needed to repent of lack of faith, fear and the bitterness that crept in their hearts. John 16:6 is an example of the disciples experiencing sorrow. When Jesus told them He was going to be killed, sorrow filled their hearts. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself experienced sorrow on the cross. Isaiah 53:4 states, "Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted." And because of the cross we can walk out our grief without turning to sin. With Christ's help we can respond in our weakness by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit. This truly is the Hope of the Cross.
